🫘 eGFR kidney function calculator
Estimate kidney function (eGFR) from serum creatinine, age and sex using the CKD-EPI 2021 formula.
What is eGFR?
eGFR estimates how much blood the kidneys filter per minute, reflecting kidney function. It matters because many drugs must be dose-reduced or avoided when kidney function declines.
Kidney disease staging by eGFR
| eGFR | Stage |
|---|---|
| ≥ 90 | G1 - Normal/high |
| 60 – 89 | G2 - Mildly decreased |
| 45 – 59 | G3a - Mild to moderate |
| 30 – 44 | G3b - Moderate to severe |
| 15 – 29 | G4 - Severely decreased |
| < 15 | G5 - Kidney failure |
Uses the CKD-EPI 2021 (race-free) formula for adults. Results are for reference only; a doctor must interpret them.
Frequently asked questions
Creatinine is in blood test (biochemistry) results. The unit is usually mg/dL or µmol/L - this tool supports both.
An eGFR below 60 for over 3 months suggests chronic kidney disease. Below 15 is kidney failure. A doctor must diagnose.
